How to Eat More… And Lose More Weight?

A few years back I was living in China after “fleeing” a terrible job and a life that was killing me. That’s when I met Lamine.

Lamine and I met at an expat meet up, and at the time he appeared to be pretty unhealthy, pretty large, and was sweating profusely in the Beijing August pollution.

He and I got to talking, and since he was a seasoned expat and I was a fresh arrival in China, he cautioned me on the food:

“Better be careful man,” he said, in a French-Algerian accent. “I gained about 60 pounds so far while living in China. Too much white rice, too much greasy food, too much alcohol, and too much partying. Make sure it doesn’t happen
to you too.”

After our meeting, I didn’t hear much from Lamine.

Well, not until a few months later.

He told me he went to a regular doctor’s checkup (he was around 30 years old) because he was having some health problems – terrible cravings, wicked migraines, knee and ankle pain, and he was sleeping terribly.

The doctor told him that he already had high blood pressure and was already going down the path of destruction.. at the ripe old age of 30.

Lamine then began to tell me about his action plan to drop the weight he had gained.

“Dude, I did something I have NEVER, EVER done before.” he said.

“I literally went into the supermarket… and read every label on every single thing I was eating out of a box.”

… But I wasn’t quite sure what I was looking for. I know that carbs and sugar are bad, but otherwise I  wasn’t quite sure what I should be eating every day.”

“What do you mean?” I said.

“Look man,” Lamine said, “I went to Google and looked up what foods to eat to lose weight. I got about 300 million search results (literally).  The first page was a scam artist looking page telling me to just eat 1500 calories a day. I tried that and I was hungry EVERY single day. It’s not worth it.

Then I go to this other lady who is slim and sexy, and she told me you need to eat only plants, and juice 5x a day.

And then the next site told me to eat tons of meat for protein and muscle building, and because it helps you stay full. Everyone said something different.

Can you just clear this BS for me and tell me the truth?”

Lamine and I talked for a few minutes as I shared 3 key principles with him, and I didn’t hear from him for about 6 months. I ended up moving back to the United States, while he stayed in China.

6 months later, I heard from him again.

I noticed that he was sharing “progress pictures” on Facebook… and he was looking a heck of a lot skinnier.

“Whoa… are you dying?” I asked him. “How did you lose so much weight?”

“I took your advice! You made it very clear about what to eat, and what not to eat, without counting my calories, carbs, sugars… and just enjoying food. It was actually pretty simple after you told me that. I was never hungry either.”

You see, it was only once he figured out what to actually eat did he lose 66 pounds in 7 months… and he did it without calorie counting or forcing himself to eat less and go hungry.
