Feeling Too Lazy to Exercise? Use The 3 Second Rule
You know that moment where you know it’s time to go to the gym, and the alarm or timer is going off, and for a split second you argue with yourself internally?
Just go… you promised yourself.
Ok, just finish this episode.
You can just go tomorrow… what’s the difference?
And a lot of the time, you end up losing, staying home, and regretting it?
Recently, I realized that this little “in-between” sabotages everything in my life – from when I workout, to taking care of things in my relationship, to being happier (like meditating) and more.
And thankfully, there’s a fix.
It’s called “The 3 Second Rule.”
The 3 Second Rule
When you get through this video, I want to hear from you:
What can you use this three second rule to fix, starting today? Comment below.

funny thing is, i think i already use this rule usually when i need to wake up very early to go exercise. i totally agree with you, going “spasm” over the “inbetween” is an effective way to overcome the lazyness that builds up. during that half an hour we deliberate about doing something or not, we are already pretty much convinced that we wont do it, so this time when we are justifying our actions to ourselves feels like a way to avoid guilt or make it seems like ” its okay, tomorrow i will go, no excuses”.
loved your rule and how you named it. oh, and the sloth riding an unicorn made my day.
have a nice day 🙂
Hahah, how can you not like a sloth riding a unicorn, right?
I’m trying this today!
Let me know how it goes for you 🙂
Hey Alex, wow I love this! Think I can apply it in so many ways…and not just in a ‘I should go for a run now’ context. Like when I find myself staring into the kitchen cupboards at 8pm about to reach for a completely unnecessary evening snack!!! 1, 2, 3……get out of the kitchen!!!! Love it!!
Haha, I find that happens to me too! Let me know how this works.
Hello Alex,
yes i love this spasm idea & i just used it to stop watching tv & go to bed because i have to wake up early. i like it because it spontanious. To stop & interrupt the behavior- im not giving up because i gotta get moving!!
thanks liz
